The Selwyn Foundation to acquire second rest home in Hamilton.
Date: 29 March 2010
The Foundation is pleased to announce that it intends to acquire the Sunningdale RSA Veterans Rest Home and Retirement Housing complex in Hamilton.
From 1 April 2010, the Foundation will assume management of the facility’s administration processes and general operations, with a view to finalising the acquisition on completion of a due diligence process later this year.
Located in Claudelands, central Hamilton, and owned by Hamilton RSA Veterans Home Trust, Sunningdale comprises a 33-bed rest home and eight rental units. With a total of 30 staff, it provides care services and retirement accommodation for mainly ex-service men and women and their dependents, although welcomes residents from non-service backgrounds. From April, the site is to be named ‘Selwyn Sunningdale Village’ and will become a member of the wider Selwyn Foundation Group.
This will be the Foundation’s second retirement facility in Hamilton. In addition, it owns and manages the Selwyn Wilson Carlile Village in Grey Street, which consists of a 39-bed rest home, ten independent living villas and also provides hospital-level care for 20 people. Elsewhere in the Waikato, the Foundation owns the 65-villa Selwyn St Andrews Retirement Village in the centre of Cambridge.
Commenting on the acquisition, Stewart Hanna, Chair of the Hamilton RSA Veterans Home Trust, said:
“This is an excellent opportunity for all concerned with Sunningdale, and one that is intended to result in greater investment in our physical environment, operational resources and the range of services that we are able to offer the ex-service men and women and other elderly people within the Waikato region.”
CEO of The Selwyn Foundation, the Revd Duncan Macdonald, commented: “As an independent charitable trust operated according to Christian values, the Selwyn Foundation is committed to providing Sunningdale residents with continuity of care and a first-class service at all times, delivered within a safe and caring environment.
“We look forward to working with the staff at Sunningdale, and to ensuring that we continue to meet the needs of elderly people in Hamilton, both now and in the future.”
