Selwyn Village celebrates 50 years of the Chapel of Christ the King

Date: 1 December 2010

Selwyn Village will commemorate a very special anniversary on 20th February, 2011 – the Golden Jubilee of the consecration of the Chapel of Christ the King.

Completed in 1961 with funds donated by the Village’s greatest benefactor, Sir Robert Kerridge, the Chapel stands at the heart of the village, on the banks of Auckland’s sparkling Waitemata Harbour. It continues to be a focal point of Village life, with weekly services, an annual programme of Festival events and visiting parish choirs invited to sing. Its busy chaplaincy team also provides a wide range of spiritual and pastoral services to the residents and staff of both Selwyn Village and the nearby Selwyn Heights retirement village in Hillsborough.

To mark the Golden Jubilee, a celebratory service will be held on Sunday, 20th February 2011, at 4.00pm. We are delighted that Bishop Ross Bay, Bishop of Auckland and President of The Selwyn Foundation, will officiate and preach at the service.

We should like to extend a warm invitation to attend this service to everyone who has been associated with Selwyn Village and the Chapel over the years.

If you would like further information on this event, or on the celebratory dinner that follows, please contact us on 09 815 4780 or at marianneh@selwyncare.org.nz
