New mission for Peter with The Selwyn Foundation
Date: 4 March 2011
A new pathway, professional ministry team and, above all, the privilege of serving are what excite Captain Peter Allfrey, as he joins The Selwyn Foundation in the newly created position of ‘Support Liaison’.
Peter’s role will be to extend the national support base for the Foundation’s community outreach work with older people and for the care services it provides to residents at its villages around the country.
His association with the Foundation – and with Selwyn Village, particularly – is very real. As a vocational missional Evangelist in the Anglican Church Army, he calls to mind the inspiration of the pioneering Evangelists of Church Army, Captain Stanley Banyard and Captain Caswell, who made such a significant contribution to the life of the Village (the latter’s visionary insight being fundamental in establishing the Point Chevalier site, one of the first retirement villages in New Zealand).
An original member of the Trust Board of the Wilson Carlile rest home in Hamilton (which subsequently became part of The Selwyn Foundation group of facilities), Peter hopes to play his part by ensuring that, through connecting with people, he raises awareness of the Foundation’s work and its Mission to provide quality Christian care and support to the elderly.
He says: ‘It is a real honour to serve God in this environment, and I am delighted to be part of this committed and dedicated team.”
Peter will be based at Selwyn Village and can be contacted on 09 845 0838 (ext.764) or at: petera@selwyncare.org.nz
