The Selwyn Foundation Board
Board Chair - Kay Hawk (Ed D, M Ed Admin (Hons), BA, Dip Ed) is a sociologist and educationalist, and was a research consultant in the business world for 20 years. Over the last 24 years, she has worked in education as a researcher, developer and adviser to schools throughout the country. She has served on a number of school boards and community associations and been an active member of her Anglican parishes.
Joanna Pidgeon (LLB(Hons) is the principal of law firm, Pidgeon Law, and specialises in property and commercial law. She is a Director of the New Zealand Mint Limited, a Trustee of the Piha Kids Charitable Trust and sits on various law society committees. She enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters at Piha whenever she can. Joanna is the great niece of Canon Caswell who founded Selwyn Village and she enjoys continuing her family's service to The Selwyn Foundation.
James Frater (BSc BCom (Auckland), CA) is a chartered accountant whose work experience in the last 30 years has been in the accounting/company secretarial departments of Stock Exchange-listed public companies. He is the People’s Warden at St George’s Anglican Church, Epsom, and has served on the Vestry at St George’s for many years, including as Treasurer on two separate occasions since the 1980s. Jim’s wife, Janet, is a general practitioner in Balmoral.
Elizabeth Niven (RN, PhD) has extensive experience in clinical nursing practice and in teaching in the health arena. A senior lecturer in Osteopathy at Unitec, she is on the Board of international journal, Nursing Ethics, and is also Chair of the Faith Community Nurses of New Zealand. Elizabeth has undertaken a joint research project at Selwyn Village, which looked at issues surrounding the introduction of technology into the lives of older people.
John Cameron (MProp (Honoris Causa), FRICS, FPINZ, AREINZ) qualified as a chartered surveyor (valuation) in the UK in 1967 and practised in London and Europe for 19 years until emigrating to New Zealand with his wife and two children in 1986. John is currently Chairman in NZ and a Regional Director in Asia Pacific of Jones Lang LaSalle. He is also a board member of the General Trust Board of the Anglican Trust and also of the Bledisloe Estate Trust of the RNZFB, a member of the Advisory Board of the University of Auckland Business School and Chairman of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors' New Zealand Branch. John is focused on assisting The Selwyn Foundation on property and development.
Sally Naulls
Sally was asked to establish a small programme of day care for older people in a parish in Papakura, Auckland, in 2000. That programme has grown exponentially through demand, and is now embedded in Anglican communities. A dedicated Christian, Sally raised a family of four before becoming involved in The Selwyn Foundation. She is now even more busy assisting others, encouraging parishes to set up their day care, and serving on the board of The Selwyn Foundation. Selwyn Centres now operate from 27 churches in the Auckland Diocese, with over 600 guests on the rolls.
Russell Florence (MCom) has been a partner with KPMG in New Zealand for more than 20 years. Highly experienced in mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, valuations, negotiation and governance, Russell is partner in charge of KPMG’s Corporate Finance department. He has provided strategic advice on some of New Zealand’s most significant mergers, takeovers and acquisitions. Russell has also been engaged on assignments throughout the Asia Pacific region and in the United Kingdom. He brings to The Selwyn Foundation a depth of understanding in governance, finance and corporate structure.
Peter Macaulay (ITCP) is the Principal of the End User Practice for IDC, a global IT research company, and is also proprietor of the No1 IT Group, an ICT consultancy which delivers strategic and governance advice. He is passionate about the ability of technology and, specifically, high speed connection to enhance many aspects of our lives. Peter has held several roles in the New Zealand IT industry: he has been President of InternetNZ, Chair of ITANZ and Program Manager for the NZ Digital Strategy. In addition to his role on The Selwyn Foundation Board, he is a core group member of Accelerating Aotearoa and a trustee of the Liz Dengate Thrush Foundation, which awards funding grants for use in the practical educational advancement of individuals in Internet entrepreneurship.
Peter Huggard (JP MPH MEd(Couns) EdD DipMgt DipMedLabTech ACIS) is a senior lecturer in the Department of General Practice and Primary Health Care, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, University of Auckland. His teaching and research interests are in therapeutic communication, vicarious trauma of health professionals and their self-care. He is the Director of the Goodfellow Unit at the University, a unit involved in providing continuing education and training for primary healthcare professionals. He has served on management committees of a variety of health and education organisations.
