Executive

 Rev Duncan Macdonald
Chief Executive
The Rev. Duncan Macdonald, is the CEO of the Selwyn Foundation.  He has had various responsibilities in his ministry work in four Diocese (including Ely (UK) and has worked for 29 years in Anglican Care with the Anglican Church, especially in the field of aged care.    He is passionate about the church providing services from a Parish base. Prior to his appointment with Selwyn Foundation Duncan was responsible for all ACC rehabilitation in New Zealand.  He has qualifications in management, planning, accounting, finances, therapy and counselling and Theology and has papers published on topics related to his fields of work.  Duncan has an intense love of everything related to the outdoors and his pursuits have seen him visit Nepal twice on tramping trips and he has also been to Antarctica.  His work with the Selwyn Foundation encompasses partnerships with Parishes delivering services to the elderly within the wider community.

 

 Fred Pau
Chief Financial Officer
Born in Malaysia, Fred came to New Zealand to study in Canterbury University in 1976.  Fred worked mostly in the commercial sector in Christchurch until 1993, when he took his family to Bangkok for three years, where he worked on a greenfield textile project for Caurtaulds Textile UK and later managed six ceramic factories.  On return to Auckland, he took on a number of commercial roles, including a stint with Carter Holt Harvey just before joining The Selwyn Foundation in 1999. As one of the longer serving executives in the team, Fred provides analytical, accounting and financial management oversight for the group, and at times, is called upon to support other areas as well. Fred’s son and daughter are studying in the local university.  Fred enjoys his daily contact with the residents.

 

 Hilda Johnson-Bogaerts
General Manager, Residential Services
MHSc (Hons) Advanced Nursing, M Psychotherapy (Caycedian Sophrology) Grad  Dip Bus Health Management, Grad Dip Nursing, Grad Dip Teaching.
Hilda has extensive experience in the aged care sector, and is a Belgian born registered general nurse.  She ran her own local community nursing practice in Belgium for 15 years, and gained experience in adult teaching and occupational health. After moving to New Zealand in 1999 with her husband and two daughters, Hilda initially worked in the Bay of Plenty before moving to Auckland.  She is a participant in the Leadership New Zealand programme and has a life long interest in gerontology.

 

 Colin Bowring
General Manager, Property & Development 
Colin is responsible for the delivery of property development and property management services to the Foundation including strategic asset management, redevelopment of existing villages and the acquisition and development of new sites. Colin has over twenty years' experience in the building industry in the UK and New Zealand, covering project management, design management and facilities management from both a client and consultant perspective. 


Mike Hablous
General Manager, Independent Living
Mike is responsible for the Foundation's Independent Living Division, which includes retirement villages and rental properties. Mike brings to the role experience in banking, insurance, health and hospitality. He leads the teams responsible for sales and the provision of services to independent residents.

 Bart Nuysink
General Manager, Medical Services
Bart was drawn into aged care early in his GP career. As a GP, he became more and more involved in residential care, obtaining a Diploma in Geriatric Medicine prior to joining The Selwyn Foundation. From a medical centre (based at Selwyn Village), Bart sees patients on a daily basis while being part of the on-call medical team.

 

 Rod Perkins PhD
General Manager, Research & Planning
Rod has a long experience in both academic and management practice in healthcare. He has worked in the public health sector and has a particular interest in quality improvement and leadership.  He is an Hon. Senior Lecturer in Health Management in the Faculty of Medical and Health Science's School of Population Health. His publishing has focused on clinical governance and leadership in healthcare. Rod took up his role at The Selwyn Foundation to help the organisation prepare more effectively for the future.


 

 Dr Chris Perkins, Director, Selwyn Centre for Ageing and Spirituality MB ChB (Otago) FRANZCP, Diploma of Professional Ethics (Auckland).  Chris is a psychiatrist, with particular expertise in mental health issues affecting older people and in intellectual disability psychiatry.  She has many years’ experience working in the aged care sector throughout New Zealand and the UK and is author of Dementia: a New Zealand Guide (Random House, 2006).  She is a member of the Scientific Committee of Alzheimers NZ and the National Executive Committee of the New Zealand Association of Gerontology, and is also a leading commentator on matters relating to the spiritual needs of older people.  As Director of the Selwyn Centre for Ageing and Spirituality, Chris’ specific interest is in ensuring that such needs are addressed as part of the holistic care of frail elders, and she is at the forefront of facilitating education, research and advocacy in all areas pertaining to ageing and spirituality in New Zealand.
